RenumberDescription
Typewritten 6 page letter (incomplete) on Charles S. Schneider to Gertrude Seiberling. There is no address and no envelope but a comment in the letter implies that Gertrude is at Cedar Lodge. The letter is providing an update on the construction of the hall. The letter addresses the need to make a decision on the carving over the main entrance, Mr. Collings being hired for the marble and tile work and correspondence they have had with "a woman in Detroit who is turning out some very wonderful tile work" (Mary Chase Stratton). She visited the hall to view the West Porch and had already drawn up a rough sketch of her plan.
Updates include the Music Room ceiling is in progress but going slowly, the woodwork in the Reception Room is almost done, the woodwork in Willard's and Frederick's room should be going up in a few days, the Billiard Room material is arriving and will be started very soon, Huber is putting up the woodwork in the Master Bedroom and Irene's materials will be shipped soon. Mr. Heinigke is putting in the glass and Mr. Schneider does not like the lack glass that he had suggested to be included in the windows throughout the house. He feels the color is too strong and would rather them be all clear but he will wait for their decision before changing it.
The plastering in the Office is finished and the woodwork will be sent as soon as the Billiard Room woodwork is done. The plasterers are finishing the Breakfast Room and will be starting the Ante Room (Round Room) as soon as they get more help. They will also be doing the Hospital Room (Infirmary). The English Garden wall is almost done except at the end where there will be a little house.
A full page is dedicated to discussing what Irene wants for the design of her door and his thoughts on it. He goes on to explain how the Tower Room (Cromwell Room) woodwork is being antiqued and how he wants the floor to match with much detail on the process options. The letter ends abruptly mid-sentence indicating at least one page is missing.Subject
