SHH 1.83Description
Unfinished portrait of a woman, seated, in center of canvas. She has blue eyes, underscored by dark shadows. Her head has an olive cast and her mouth is somewhat stern, eyes intent. She wears a red kerchief on her head, with one end slung behind her left shoulder and the other, draped over her right shoulder; has a white streak down the left side. The bodice of her dress is a deep blue-black and has a V-neck which opens wide around her collar bones. The sleeves are flared, draping down to her elbows and are white with wide red intersecting stripes, one vertical and one horizontal. Arm of chair is visible at right foreground and the woman is resting her right elbow on it. Her hands are loosely crossed in her lap. Her shirt is red with the dark plum shadows of her arms on the top. The background is a dark maize with blue-green shadows around the right side.Type of Painting

Note

The majority of these paintings were not framed, and some weren't on stretchers. Thus, new frames were added for the exhibit by Akron Center for Art & Framing, 1915 W.
