1996 print copied at ACCL for Stan Hywet from the original image lent by Rita Sommerfeldt. Rose Koehler-Schlayer (1909/11-1993) was Mrs. Seiberling's ladies' maid from ca. 1930 to 1936. Rose also cooked for Mrs. Seiberling on the main cook's day off and helped her plan teas and small dinner parties. Rose was born in Hudson, Ohio (Rita says in 1909 but also said 1911) of German heritage. She lived in Akron and Doylestown, had one brother Fred Koehler. At age 16 she married a Mr. Schlayer to whom she was married to for only one year but did give birth to his son, Jack (John). About 1937 she married Karl Sommerfeldt, a farmer in Doylestown, and Jack assumed his stepfather's last name. About 1954 Rose married Dallas Frazier of Akron and she worked at O'Neil's Department Store in the Silver Department. Rose was diagnosed with cancer in July of 1993 and died Christmas Day, 1993.Create Date
