PHOTOGRAPHER BIOGRAPHY
Michael Bedford, recognized as one of Canada's finest portrait photographers, was the Official Royal Portrait Photographer before his retirement. He established his Ottawa business in 1972, and he has photographed Canada's royalty and many renowned artists and politicians such as Maureen Forrester (opera singer), Ken Danby (artist), June Callwood (journalist and social activist) and Stanley Knowles (politician and MP). His portraits also include many other professions - conductors, playwrights, athletes, conservationists, directors, producers and writers in Canada and beyond.
Of note, Bedford photographed Queen Elizabeth II official portraits four times - once in the late 70’s, the next in 1982 for the Canada Act, in 2002 for her 50th anniversary on the throne and again in 2012 on the occasion of her 60th jubilee anniversary on the throne. His son, Joel Bedford, also a photographer, served as his assistant for the 2012 photo session.
