ARTIST BIOGRAPHY Born near Quebec City, Michel DesRochers, is a Canadian artist noted for his landscapes in oil, pastel and watercolour. He has lived and worked in Canada, England and France. DesRochers studied in Quebec and later part-time at the Ontario College of Art in the late 1950s, also working in the Art Department of Simpson-Sears, learning fashion art and graphics for five years. He also studied sculpture and he later became art director for a department store in Quebec City. DesRochers then traveled to England and later France painting full-time. He took part in group shows and major exhibitions, notably the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Royal Society of Marine Artists Annual Exhibitions, as well as the Gallérie Feille in France. He also had a number of solo shows such as at the Municipal Art Gallery in Bury St. Edmund's, Suffolk, England. In 1987, DesRochers later settled in Sooke, B.C. where he and his artist wife Marion, ran the Sooke Fine Art Gallery until 2015, after which he moved to Victoria. His works are held in both private and corporate collections.
