ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Born in New Brunswick, Judith Saunders left nursing to pursue her lifelong ambition of being a professional artist. She later transplanted her successful art career in Atlantic Canada to Victoria, B.C. in 1988, obtaining her Honours Fine Arts Degree at the University of Victoria in 1993. Saunders continues to paint full-time and since launching her art career in 1979, she has had 45 solo exhibitions and 85 group shows. She paints mainly in acrylics and watercolours and is known for her ability to capture the essence of light and shadow in old growth forests and shorelines. She returns to New Brunswick each summer where she paints and exhibits and is active in the arts community there, as she is in Victoria.
Her paintings are featured in many galleries and are included in private collections in Canada, and beyond. She is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Island Illustrators Society, the Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula Arts Council. She was nominated for the 2017 New Brunswick Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for High Achievement in Visual Arts.
