ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Born in Victoria, B.C., Caren Heine is recognized as one of Canada’s most gifted botanical artists. Daughter of artist Harry Heine and sister of artist Mark Heine, she began exhibiting as a professional artist herself at age 14, specializing primarily in botanical subjects in watercolour, but she is also known for architectural and animal subjects in watercolour, acrylic and pastel.
In 1979 the Federation of Canadian Artists recognized her talent by electing her to the status of A.F.C.A. when she was then only 20, the youngest artist yet to be so honoured. She has exhibited in both solo and group shows across North America, and also with the Royal Society of Painters in Miniature in London, England. She has also exhibited in traveling shows in Canada, the U.S.A. and Europe, sponsored by organizations such as The University of British Columbia and the Canadian Nature Federation. She is also an experienced muralist and illustrator, and has won multiple commissions from the Canadian Mint. Active in the arts community, she has taught many classes and workshops, as well as hosting international teaching tours with her renowned artist father and brother for the past two decades. She has traveled widely in Europe and beyond.
