ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Born in New South Wales, Australia, Robyn Collier moved to B.C. in 1974, graduating with a B.Ed., majoring in graphic arts from the University of British Columbia (UBC). Following a year of Renaissance art study in Europe, she returned to Canada to teach grades 6-11, as well as adult education printmaking courses (etching, woodblock printing, lithography and silk screening) in Haida Gwaii, B.C. She later continued her studies in Vancouver and was awarded a master’s degree from UBC in 1886, as well as continuing her graduate studies at the University of Canberra in TESOL (English Second Language) since 2009.
Collier then returned to Australia, and has done ESL teaching for the ACT Schools Authority in Canberra since 2010, and also continued her artwork and art class teaching as owner and teacher at BC Graphics. She was a member of the independent Studio One Printmaking Workshop in Canberra that operated from 1983-2003 to serve Contemporary Art Society graduates and the broader arts community, now Megalo Print Studio. Collier has had a long association with the Wood Works Gallery in Bungendore, New South Wales, Australia with numerous solo and group exhibitions and she now appears to divide her time between Australia and Canada. Richly designed, her etchings often include embossing, engraving, hand-colouring and copper and gold leaf. Collier’s works are held in various public and private collections worldwide including Canada, England, USA, Japan and Australia.
