ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Born in St. Aegyd am Neuwalde, Austria, Mimi Jones (Maria Josefa Wagner) was a well-known Canadian artist, specializing in watercolour painting and printmaking. Jones grew up in Vienna, surviving the Depression and World War II. She immigrated to Canada in 1955 and ultimately settled in Victoria.
Jones studied at Urania College in Vienna, the Vancouver School of Art and the University of Victoria, earning a BFA in Visual Arts. She also studied with a number of Victoria and Vancouver area artists such as Brian Travers-Smith, Richard Ciccimara (1924-1973), Herbert Siebner (1925-2003), Pat Martin-Bates and Noboru Sawai (1931-2017). She exhibited in both one-woman and group exhibitions in Victoria with Watermark Printmakers, Ground Zero Printmakers, Group XIV and Nootka Printmakers. Her work was also exhibited nationally and internationally from West Germany to South Africa and Seattle. Jones often donated artwork to charitable causes. Her work is held by the University of Victoria.
