The town of Killarney is on the shore of Lough Leane Lake, part of Killarney National Park, Ireland's first national park created in 1932. The park stretches across some 10,000 hectares with wild mountainous country that sweeps down to the world-famous Lakes of Killarney. It also has many heritage sites including Muckross House and Gardens, Killarney House and Gardens, Ross Castle, etc.
Killarney featured prominently in early Irish history, and its cultural and natural heritage, and also its location on the Ring of Kerry, the 180 km loop on the Iveragh peninsula, has made it a popular destination for some 250 years, from Lord Benmare to Queen Victoria to Thomas Cook and his first package tours ca. 1895.Made/Created
