This camera was built by Dr. Robert Peter, on the medical faculty at TU in the 19th century. Based on Peter's notebooks, we know that he met an agent of Daguerre on a ship from Europe to the Americas in the 1830s. This camera was built by Peter shortly after that encounter. It is believed to be one of the earliest cameras in North America in the daguerreotype style. The camera was examined by the Eastman Kodak House in 2010. It measures 8-1/8 x 9-1/8 inches. The lens is 2 inches in diameter.Collection
