Iron loop from the Roman site at Newstead (Trimontium)

Use

Loops may have been once attached to chests, the loops would allow the chest to open easily/ larger loops used to help carry the chest.

Context

Iron was widely used by the Romans for tools, weapons and fittings. Nails, bolts and fastenings were common finds in pits and on the surface at Newstead.
