Leben am Ungarischen Donaulimes (Life on the Hungarian Danube Limes)Description
Von Augustus bis Attila presents the Hungarian National Museum's finest pieces from the Roman period, which will be on public display at major exhibitions in Constance, Heidelberg, and Aalen from October 2000 to January 2002. For over five centuries, the Hungarian Plain was one of the Roman Empire's most important border regions. Not only did important trade routes intersect here, but numerous peoples from across the Danube also repeatedly attempted to invade the Roman Empire. Thus, numerous forts and important cities arose along the Danube, where Roman and native Pannonian cultures could meet and mingle. The frequent presence of the Roman emperors and the numerous soldiers stationed here helped the province achieve great wealth, which is reflected today in impressive archaeological finds.Lexicon
