Wooden stave-built well bucket, made from oak, with an iron handle and supports, from the Roman site at Newstead (Trimontium), late 1st century AD

Use

The bucket would have been used to bring water up from a well for water.

Context

Buckets had a variety of purposes, and was most commonly used to carry and store water.
