Long-handled bone weaving comb, from the Roman site at Newstead (Trimontium), 80 - 100 AD

Use

Weaving combs are a traditional tapestry or weaving tool used to pack the weft firmly in place as you weave.

Context

This domestic item was an essential tool for the peasant class at Trimontium. Importing fabrics would be costly, so most of the residents at Trimontium would rely on hand woven fabrics for their clothing and bedding.
