It was part of the main harness junction on a horse harness used by the auxiliary cavalry stationed at Trimontium. ContextContext
Trimontium was a military fort, mainly comprised of cavalry forces. Numerous artefacts relating to horses, such as their harness, were found at the site. The harnesses of Roman cavalrymen were decorated with a range of mounts and pendants. Some of the finer examples were probably used in tournaments or ceremonies.Collection
