Description

Mount of bronze in form of a human head and shoulders, from the Roman site at Newstead (Trimontium)

Use

May have been a horse's mount, or from a belt worn by a person

Context

Trimontium had the longest occupation of cavalry forces at the fort, and as such numerous pieces of equipment associated with horses was found at the fort. In addition, a mount for a belt worn by a solider was used not only for decoration, but to strengthen the belt as well.
