Description

Cavalry lance head of iron, from the Roman site at Newstead (Trimontium), 80 - 180 AD

Use

Lances were a type of weapon used by the cavalry, and would allow for a soldier to engage in battle from atop the horse.

Context

As Trimontium was a military fort, weapons of numerous styles in varying states of conservation were found. The Romans would have used swords to control local populations through military and trade means.
