Brass phalera with central boss, from the Roman site at Newstead (Trimontium), 80 - 100 AD

Use

A metal disc worn on a horse's harness or a soldier's breastplate as a military decoration.

Context

Trimontium fort had a strong cavalry presence, so lots of horse equipment has been found there.
