Description

Filleting knife blade of iron with a bone handle, from the Roman site at Newstead (Trimontium), Roxburghshire, 140 - 180 AD

Use

Used for cutting food/meat. Could also be used to fillet meat/fish.

Context

Excavations at Newstead have revealed much about the layout and daily life in Roman forts in Scotland. This knife was found in Pit LXXXVI during the excavations by James Curle.
