Description

Bronze parade helmet fragments with repousse decoration, from the Roman site at Newstead (Trimontium)

Use

Helmets were used to protect the head from blunt and sharp force trauma. Helmets could also denote status and military rank.

Context

In the case of this fragment, it is believed to have been apart of a parade helmet. The Romans would hold military parades after victories in battle, or to show the might of the Roman Empire's army.
