Tatort Cut (Crime Scene Cut)Secondary Title
Die Spur führt nach Xanten (The Trail Leads to Xanten)Description
Tatort Cut provides insight into the methods of archaeological research, from excavation to evaluation, from the discovery of an ancient object to the reconstruction of its use. This catalogue aaccompanies the Exhibition of the Department of Archaeological Monuments, Archaeological Park, Xanten Regional Museum in the Xanten Regional Museum from August 20 to October 29, 1995.Context
Tatort Cut asks and answers the questions. What does archaeology have to do with criminology? What does the Roman city of Colonia Ulpia Traiana near Xanten have to do with forensic investigations? When following a person's trail, it initially doesn't matter whether a crime occurred yesterday or two thousand years ago. Although there are no living witnesses left, a wealth of circumstantial evidence exists—all the things people left behind when they left their city. For example, a Roman potter whose vessels were damaged during firing in the kiln and therefore discarded left his fingerprints on the shards. Archaeological and forensic investigations now provide information about how the potter organized his business.Lexicon
