Description

Fragment of a Samian ware bowl, ornamented with an eagle with a snake in its beak and Victory offering a wreath to a nude figure, from the Roman site at Newstead. Medallion decoration with eagle inside. In two parts.

Use

Food preparation and storage. The intricate nature of the design and style indicate this bowl would have been used by the Roman officers.

Context

Surface find and is believed to be from the later period of the fort.
