Bolt of a lock of bronze, from the Roman site at Newstead, Roxburghshire, 80 - 180 AD

Use

Used to strengthen the security of the lock.

Context

Numerous keys and locks were found at the site, as the barracks would be locked for security. Many officers and soldiers had chests and trunks that would lock to secure their personal belongings.
