Name/Title
Der Obergermanisch-Raetische Limes des RoemerreichesDescription
The ORL is divided into two sections: the seven-volume Section A, which is dedicated to the individual Limes sections (routes) themselves, and the eight-volume Section B, which describes the individual larger forts.
Section A documents the precise course of the Limes, describing the features, shape, and state of preservation of the rampart, moat, palisade ditch, or wall, as well as the watchtowers and smaller forts below the numerus size. A comprehensive section is dedicated to Roman and pre-Roman road connections, and another section documents the finds recovered by the commission during excavations.
Section B describes in detail every single fort known at the time of the commission, from the size of a numerus fort upwards.
Both sections also summarize the respective research findings from the period prior to the commission's activities. The chapters of both sections are equipped with elaborately designed illustrations containing site maps, floor plans, drawings of findings and finds, as well as excavation photographs.Book Details
