Key of bronze, from the Roman site at Newstead (Trimontium)

Use

Used to operate locks (to either lock or unlock it) for security.

Context

Numerous keys and locks were found at the site, as the barracks would be locked for security. Many officers and soldiers had chests and trunks that would lock to secure their personal belongings. From the Retentura, Well Meadow during the excavations conducted by James Curle.
