Description

Rome's expansion could never have been so strong, over such a long period of time and across such a vast territory, without the power and professionalism of its army. This catalogue accompanying the exhibition presents the organization, technicality, and power of one of the fundamental pillars of Roman civilization. The exhibition will present the emperor in his role as commander of the armies, the collective and individual equipment of the soldier, battle and victory, the navy, so little known, but also life in the camp and supply. In partnership with the Mougins Museum, which specializes in the presentation of Roman military objects, and loans granted by private collectors and institutions such as the Louvre Museum, the Museum of National Antiquities, the Maritime Museum, the Underwater Archaeology Research Department (DRASSM), the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, the Eauze Museum, the Hadrian's Wall Museum in Scotland, and the Gandur Foundation for Art in Geneva, to further the understanding of this instrument of Roman power.
