Note
Gunflints were used inside gun locks so that when the trigger was pulled it would strike a spark which would ignite the black powder within the pan in less than a second. During the mid-17th to mid 19th centuries gunflints were used in muckets, rifles, and pistols. Soldiers with flintlock weapons would have been able to fire three or four times per minute.
