Description

The broken head of a bone toothbrush.

Context

Found in Block 524, the use of bone implies that it was created before WWI. Toothbrushes were not yet widespread as most Americans still preferred to use a cloth to clean their teeth. This toothbrush most likely had boar hair bristles which had a reputation for growing bacteria if not dried properly. Therefore, most boar hair bristle toothbrushes had a three or four month lifespan before being discarded.
