Crude, "speckled" finish due to salt glaze slip technique. Blob finish on neck. "B Nilm:115" beneath the handle identifies the initial of the maker (B) and the bottle number (Num:115.) SELTERS seal and HERZOGTHUM NASSAU embossing indicate contents and manufacturer.
Contained mineral water ("selters", or seltzer) imported from a spring in the Dutchy of Nassau in Hesse, Germany. Other examples found in 1840s California excavation, but none earlier.
