One of the biggest toy manufacturers in the 19th century, Germany led the world in producing and distributing children's toy until the advent of World War I. This attribution is supported by the fact that one of the most common terms used to describe marbles in Southern Louisiana at this time, "Canique", is Germanic in origin.Material

Though one would believe that the color of this marble had faded due to it being unglazed, glazed marbles at the time of the 19th century, despite the technique of utilizing multiple glazes both underneath and above the surface of the hand-painted design, would also suffer the issue of washed out colors. It's fairly probable that the glazing technique would allow for the decoration to last longer than if the marble were unglazed, but the true extent of the integrity of both methods are unknown.Location
