These stones are referred to as “nutting stones” in Indigenous America. They are used to break open hard-shelled nuts that are not able to be cracked with teeth. The nut would be placed in the depression and would be hit with a “hammer stone”.
These stones being found on this site may speak to self-provisioning/food insecurity for enslaved people or later plantation workers.
