Note
Erasable slates were hard material made out of slate stone that were used as a cheaper alternative to pen and paper. With these slates, students were able to reuse them over again due to the ability to wipe off past markings with pieces of cloth.
Students wrote on these slates with chalk or pencils also made out of slate as opposed to more expensive wooden pencils or ink.
