Grouping2022.1Description
I believe to be either a “45C” or “45D”version. This example shows evidence of hood buttons as well as buttons for a gas flap on the inside. However, there is no evidence of a gas flap. No manufacturers tag is present, however there is a small area in the neck where a size tag was present at one point.
As for the owner.
Samuel M. Raffensperger of Adams County, Pennsylvania served with Headquarters Company, 390th Infantry Regiment, 98th Division. He is credited with Pacific service with no additional battle credits. The 98th served in defense of the Hawaiian Islands and trained for anticipated participation in Operation Olympic. Mr. Raffensperger passed away on January 16, 1996 and is buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
He joined as a Private and left the service in 1945 as a Staff Sergeant. It can be inferred that this was used during his time in Hawaii due to the rank printed on his jacket.Made/Created
