LST-495 was laid down on 14 August 1943 at Evansville, Ind., by the Missouri Valley Bridge & Iron Co.; launched on 16 October 1943; sponsored by Mrs. Arthur L. Nunn; and commissioned on 23 December 1943.
During World War II, LST-495 was assigned to the European theater and participated in the invasion of Normandy in June 1944 and the invasion of southern France in August and September that same year. She was then assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater and took part in the assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto in April and June 1945. Following the war, LST-495 performed occupation duty in the Far East until late October 1945. Upon her return to the United States, she was decommissioned on 23 April 1946 and struck from the Navy list on 5 June 1946. On 8 April 1948, the ship was sold to Kaiser Co., Inc., of Seattle, Wash., and subsequently scrapped.
LST-495 earned three battle stars for World War II service.
OBITUARY:
Robert N. Fralich, 96, of Millersville, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Lebanon VAMC-Hospice Unit, Lebanon after a year-long battle with prostate cancer. He was the husband of the late Mary J. (Travis) Fralich, who died in 2005. They were married fifty-seven years at the time of Mary's death.
Robert was a designer draftsman for RCA, Lancaster until his retirement in 1982.
Born May 2, 1920 in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Benjamin C. and Malinda Angeline (Jolliff) Fralich. An Episcopalian, Robert was a life-time member of St. James Episcopal Church, Lancaster, where he sang in the choir as a child. Robert was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in WWII from 1944 until 1946.
Also surviving are three children; Thomas M. Fralich married to Hoa C. Huynh, of Lancaster and Richard T. Fralich married to Karen A. (Troxell) Fralich, of Landisville and Diane L. Fralich, of Millersville; four grandchildren; Thomas J. Fralich married to Mary Chen, Stephen J. Fralich, Wendy E. married to Robert W. Stewart and Travis A. Fralich and two great-grandchildren; Julia and Sylvia Stewart. He was preceded in death by three siblings.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the Staff at Conestoga View and the Lebanon VAMC-Hospice Unit for the kind and compassionate care given to Robert and the family during the past three months.

Scheid Funeral Home "Sullivan Home", 121 South Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17603 (on-site parking with attendants) on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 2PM. Friends may view at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home-Lancaster on Monday between 1-2PM. Interment will be in the Riverview Burial Park, South Duke Street, Lancaster, PA with Military Honors. Kindly omit flowers.
