Korean War
79th Tank Battalion
25th Infantry Division
Tech. Sergeant with the 17th Armored Infantry during WWII. According to his family, he wore these through his time in Europe. His son recalls him saying he had a tough fight in Herrlisheim, France.
With a little bit of google searching I found out that this is where the the 17th were depending on the 43rd Tank Battalion to assist in flanking manuevers. As you may or may not know, the 43rd never made it. The 43rd TB was never heard from again and not one man made it back. The 17th remained completely cut off, surrounded and remained for days before the Germans retreated, effectively ending The Norwind Offensive.
He was called into service again during Korea and fought with the 79th Tank Battalion, 25th Infantry Division. He left as a Master Sergeant.
These M-1936-1942 dated combat suspenders were undoubtedly witness to the fighting at Herrlisheim. They feature both a hand written and stamped B2008.Made/Created
