Scope and Content

PHOTO F I LE P.O. BOX 123, ZION, ILLINOIS 60099 Telephone: 312- 872-7557 Photofile has recently been involved with the development of special library products. Our acceptance and success has prompted us to write to you and explain who we are and what we do. Photofile has been producing unique filing and retrieval products used in the Professional Photography Field for more than 10 years. These products are file cards for the informative storage and retrieval of negatives, color transparencies, and prints. Our success in this field has led us into the development of envelopes and folders for the safe keeping of archival-type manuscripts, documents, and photographic materials. The many inquiries we received from curators and archivists were largely responsible for our entry into this field. For example, Photofile worked with the preservation group within the Library of Congress in the development of a mylar folder for the protection of rare manuscripts. For the U. S. Forestry Service, Photofile produced a mylar sleeve for the preservation and easy viewing of negatives. The manuscript folder consists of two mylar sheets joined together at binding edge with 3M #415 tape. This method grips a manuscript firmly and offers the user semi-incapsulation. The mylar sleeve has a unique matte finish for non-glare viewing and the chemically-inert material eliminates any possibility of ferrotyping. A silicon dioxide additive, which creates the matte, is chemically inert and acid-free. A new line of acid-free envelopes was also introduced. The paper used is PERMALIFE , an exclusive development of Howard Paper Mills. This crisp, clean, ivory colored paper offers a fresh, new approach in envelope storage. The surface can be easily stamped, printed, or typed with excellent readability. Our literature and envelope copy states a pH minimum of 7.5, but the actual paper is made to a specification of 8.2 to 8.5 pH. Inventory levels are high, prices competitive, and orders can be shipped within two days after receipt of order. Thank you for spending this time with us, and if we can help you in any way, please let us know. Sincerely yours, PHOTOFILE Thomas E. Graves President P.S.: We also welcome small quantity orders of 100 envelopes. Write for special price list.
