Sycamore Branch, consisting of two sites recorded at the top of a ridge (SB1 and SB2), is an area where Lon Savage and others claim the miners broke through defensive lines. The Sycamore Branch Gap below was a crossroads for many watersheds within the battlefield, as well as the location of and the sites above were connected by several trails which ran along he Spruce Fork ridgeline. This was not an area of major fighting, but would have held strategic significance if captured by the miners.Context
"This site is located on a hilltop at the head of Sycamore Branch, and is about 70 by 25 meters in extent. There are two concentrations of artifacts at 46LG210 separated by about 50 meters. One is much larger than the other. A total of 31(?) artifacts were documented for this site, most of which (24) were .30-06 casings. No spent bullets may indicate a lack of effective fire from the attackers. While the site is located about 20 meters off an old logging road, it is not threatened in any other obvious way. No looting evidence was observed."
